We Have Gardens and are Near Gardens
We’ve had many inquiries for rooms over the last 5 years asking if we have any grounds or gardens. We do. Many Maine B&B’s in Camden Maine have a garden area, porch, deck or backyard, but if you’re looking for a garden at your B&B with a Mt. Battie view, quick access to the Mt. Battie Trailhead, and Camden Hills State Park, Windward House is your best bet. We have many native species, cottage garden flowers, and a plethora of hydrangeas.
Our gardens this year are all dedicated to mothers who have been taken too soon from their kids. Each year we dedicate our efforts to make pretty flowers bloom and shady spots inviting. Last year our Coastal Garden, affectionately called by my dad, the “Buddha Garden” was dedicated to peace.
Although after a stormy spring Jesse was behind in his gardening, on a forced march in early June, when we had some very special guests, George and Allie from Carolina, he worked like the dickens to get some blooming petals up and around before they left. While they were here these guests had the same kind of effect as flowers – they made us cheerful and optimistic and were a pleasure to be around.
In an effort to promote this place for all those Maine lodging seekers looking for a B&B with a garden, here are pictures. Most of the pictures are of our gardens and flowers, but a few are from MerrySpring, a horticultural center near our house.
Of course, Maine, like the little girl who had the little curl right in the middle of her forehead, when it’s good, it’s really really good! We’re talking about the stunningly gorgeous light, sun and flowers. All of our many guests from southerly destinations, great folks from the Carolinas, Texas, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, and even Southern California, say that one thing they love about coming to Maine is that they get to experience a second spring time, with the many northern blooms and blossoms coming out after theirs are already gone, and wow! what a great year this is for flowers in Maine – the first the tulips and spring bulbs, then all the wild apple tree blossoms with their pink and green, and the lilacs, then the iris and lupines, fields of lupines, – something about the accumulation of rain and sun and who knows what has lead to a particularly great year for flowers.
If you are interested in gardens in Maine, coastal and cottage gardens, you should make a reservation for the Camden Garden Club’s annual tour, we’ve had many gardeners staying at the Bed & Breakfast who absolutely love the Camden Maine Garden Tour, come tour some fantastic gardens. We’ve had two famous landscape architects staying with us while consulting with local gardens so you know how seriously people in Camden take their gardens – imagine being able to tour private gardens in Camden Maine? Also, even when there are no tours, there is Avena’s Botanicals, and the The Merry Spring Horticultural Center (a few of the images in our Flickr Feed are from Merry Spring).
But even if you’re not in Camden Maine on the day of the Garden Tour, just walk around the Historic Village District you’ll spy a unique and fantastic array of flowering trees, climbers, New England field-stone walls, gazebos, trellises, pergolas, with beautiful Greek revival, federal revival, colonial and Victorian homes as their centerpieces.
Among one of our guests favorite pursuits in Camden Maine is door entryway and flower box watching. We love flower boxes, and hanging baskets and have them all over the front and back porch. This year proven winners have come up with some exciting new double blossoming creeping climbing mounding annuals with colors both subtle and showy.
Come to Camden Maine for the Flowers, and stay at Windward House B&B!
Enjoy our garden from the lawn, we have chairs and a table, also, from the Library’s deck or if you reserved the Brass Room from it’s deck, or Chart Room, from it’s porch-deck, or from Quarterdeck’s deck as well.
Since pictures slow down our site we have decided to upload images of the Camden Windward House, and our Gardens to Flickr. Enjoy.
