Windward House-, Simply Your Home in Camden...

kristi-bifulco-and-childrenOur goal is a simple one: to give you the experience of staying in Circa 1854 romantic historic home, in a coastal Maine village, and be hosted by a real family while there. To accomplish our goal we live here. We cook you a homemade breakfast to order using fresh local ingredients serve gourmet coffee and home baked treats, and soft soft sheets. Enjoy quiet rooms, and the warm comfort of 500 thread count sheets, a/c, and cable t.v..

We feel that our style of inn keeping is conducive to getting to that Camden state of mind and enjoying the laid back breathtakingly natural surroundings of Camden with as little fuss as possible. To that end we concentrate on the human side of things. You will not find any manager. Except for our coffee, which is gourmet, we do not aspire to being called "gourmet". We like people, and we enjoy hosting our guests. We are not a boutique hotel; there are few nick knacks, fewer signs and no preciosity. We think those things are fine in their place, behind velvet ropes, etc, but not in your home -, which is what we seek to make for you for the special time you may be here to enjoy it. Instead of all that, you will meet us; we are parents, a husband and wife, a couple with three young children. The hand carved finnials above the door, the mouldings, and post and beam construction, the Greek revival columns, our location in the heart of the village, and a block from the Mt. Battie trailhead the clean air and calm ocean all speak for themselves. We feel they are like the beautiful lupines that bloom here, without any help they need no adornment for you to enjoy them! ...and that's what we offer.

Camden Maine a Secret Harbor and Travelers Best Kept Secret

Many people come just to see the ships in the harbor.
For those unfamiliar with the Maine Coast, Camden Maine is a unique place; many have called it a magical place. Situated in a harbor named one of the top ten prettiest in the world, and surrounded by the scenic Camden Hills State Park, on the Penobscot Bay, with the largest fleet of traditional historic wooden Schooners, the famed sailing ships of a bygone era, it truly feels like a place lost in time. There are many things to do here, and the Windward House’s location makes it the ideal place to stay when visiting Camden Maine.

Traditional Bed and Breakfast in a Traditional Maine Greek Revival House

The Windward House, a lovely old Greek Revival has stood here on High Street just one block north of the center of Camden Village diagonally across the street from Camden Harbor Park with its broad lawns, walkways and public benches overlooking the busy harbor in Penobscot Bay since 1854. Elijah Glover, a prominent local lumberman and ship builder had his shipwrights build this fine example of what some would call the characteristic style of the flowering of New England, a house that still resonates with the spirit of the optimism of our young republic -, a Maine Temple style house, as his home. A number of different families have lived in this house and by the mid ‘20’s, she began to be used as a guest house.

Kristen & Jesse Bifulco, the current innkeeper/owners moved into the Windward House in August of 2005 and have purposely sought to cultivate a warm homey feeling for their guests in the heart of Camden. They offer a menu breakfast of comfort foods and specials made with fresh local ingredients, from old family recipes and gourmet fair trade coffee. Windward features many modern amenities while maintaining her historic charm. The Innkeepers, originally from Staten Island New York, were raising their children in a suburb of Metropolitan NY when they decided they wanted to commute less, enjoy their children more, and slow down their hectic-paced lives, in a small town.

When people ask why they would give up a successful law practice and a big house in the suburbs, they say: “We wish to give our children the opportunity to enjoy the kind of childhood only a place like Maine can give. We felt that it was apt that we begin our little American lifestyle experiment in a greek revival temple-style house, in a small town surrounded by the natural beauty of coastal Maine. From the beginning of our married lives together we have tried to do things in a way that set precedents for our values as married people. We feel that our lifestyle choice resonates with a nostalgic honor for the very best intentions of our country’s beginning, romance and old fashioned values.
