The processing of food at home can be an intimidating endeavor.  But without this simple knowledge, beans are left on their poles, zucchini grow to the size of baseball bats and cucumbers get soft in the refrigerator.  Canning is a simple process and unlike much of the cooking we do at Salt Water Farm, it requires a steadfast recipe.  This class explores the science of putting up vegetables for the winter months through simple recipes and techniques.  We will discuss the equipment needed to pickle and preserve at home and hand out a list of safety precautions to follow while processing the mason jars. We will jar everything from tomatoes, to squash, to beans and students will get to take home their work.  We will snack on bagna couda, homemade bread and local butter.
This class is $75

Our classes are at the whim of the weather, farmers’ schedules and fluctuating tides, and therefore are subject to change.

Class is at Salt Water Farm. Stay at the Camden Windward House for this class. Salt water Farm is 4.7 miles from the Inn. Maine cooking classes are a great addition to your getaway.
