Seeing Camden through the eyes of babes

Unbeknownst to me, my father helped my daughter create a Camden blog. It is a wonderful depiction of Camden Maine. Please visit: http://hopepictures.blogspot.com/

Spring has Sprung

Camden Maine is alive with color and boats. Windward House survived another Winter. Jesse has been working non stop in the garden. The boats in the harbor are all unwrapped and starting to take passengers out on 2 hour tours. The Windjammer Cruises are hosting people over night and restaurants are all open. Soon the duck will have their babies and the lobster boats will be seen regularly.
The Lilacs just came out in the Windward Garden, the forsynthia was first but have changed to green now.
The picture here is of Summer leaves, my children named this tree. The tree is a plum tree, we only learned this last year when we discovered fruit on the tree. The tree has beautiful pink flowers in the spring. We are excited for another season of hosting guests.

Schooner Olad Sandwich at Camden Deli

Last week was fun with champagne and Irish Music, I was so moved by the Irish music that I became reminiscent of the past and have been practicing Irish dancing. I was a Staten Ireland Dancer in Staten Island New York for about 8 years. I signed up to teach an after school enrichment program here in Camden Maine about Irish step dancing to 2nd and 3rd graders. My daughter says no one is going to be interested. I told my daughter that I didn’t care because even if no one came, I would be dancing in the school cafeteria by myself and that would be fun.
The Irish Dancing is not the only thing I am excited about this week,  this week I became privy to the Camden Deli new menu ideas. The Camden Deli is my favorite lunch place. Tom and Angela (Owners) have a wonderful spot right over the waterfall and the best view in Camden. They use Boars Head products for their sandwiches and do a great job! I was excited to find out that the Camden Deli summer 2009 new menu will include sandwiches named after local boats. Angela was so excited about the Schooner Olad Sandwich. The Schooner Olad Sandwich will be: Sour Dough Bread, Mustard, and Cheddar cheese, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, sliced chicken breast all grilled together.  Sounds delicious. I wonder if Captain Aaron of the Olad knows about this dedication.  I am sure he will be thrilled. You can sit by the big picture window or deck and eat an Olad sandwich as you watch the Olad set sail on the Penobscot Bay.

Irish Music and Champagne

This week Natalies Restaurant participated in the ME Restaurant Week. The restaurant sponsored a signature event of “The Widow Clicquot”. Guests were treated to 2 types of Cliquot champagne and an interesting account of the Window Cliquot from the author of the book about her life. The event was fun and very informative. I stayed after to enjoy the wonderful dinner that was designed for Restaurant week.

The next night, the library hosted a wonderful Irish band Magic Foot. I was delighted to hear the quality of this band. I was disappointed that they are not from this area and that it may be hard to hear them again live. I found them online and as I write this am listening to there music. Although that does not replace an actual concert it is satisfying my love of listening to Irish Music.  The members of this band are truly talented and lived up to the high quality of music that the Camden Public Library hosts once a month at their Coffee House Series.   Click here to enjoy their music, or find out when they are playing Great Irish Music.

I know it is custom to drink beer when listening to Irish Music, but I think this week, if I could have merged these two events, it would have been fantastic, Champagne and Irish Music!! Doesn’t get better than that.

Windward House signs up for Earth Hour

Camden Windward House is the 1st Bed and Breakfast Environmental Leader In Camden Maine. March 28, 2009 at 8:30pm we will shut off all electricy and honor this global effort. Turning off your lights for one hour, Earth Hour, Americans  show that they care about this issue and stand with the rest of the world in finding solutions to the escalating climate crisis.

I often tell people that being green is not easy due to the cost of environmental products. Have you ever gotten an estimate to put solar panels on your roof, or revamp your heating system to be more efficient? If you have you know what I am talking about. Even environmental friendly products are more expensive. There are things here at WIndward that we have done that the state of maine acknowledged and has rewarded us with the green certificate. This effort, contributing to a hour of no electricity, is something that everyone can do and if we all do it right we could make a great impact on the world. I encourage all to sign up for this effort.
