Camden Maine

Camden harbour
About one of the most beautiful places on earth, the quintessential Maine sea coast village….
Camden Maine is a unique destination, not just in Maine but in the world. This seaside village has all the things that make a great getaway. Sailing, kayaking, hiking, shopping, restuarants, skiing, art, culture, spas, the list in numerous.
We at Windward House like to think of Camden as a soft Adventure Capital. The beautiful moutains that sourround the village have dozens of trails that have fantastic views. The harbor is known to be one of the best places to sail because of the islands that surround it and make the waters calm. The water has sea life that amazes onlookers.
Camden while definitely an attraction for visitors to Maine, unlike many of the other great Maine destinations has retained much of its small town-real town feel. While in many ways it is a hidden gem of culture and cuisine, it still maintains the rustic outdoor activities that the Maine Coast is famous for; rocky shores, pines poking out of little islands in the harbor, a sandy beach, and one of the most beautiful harbors in the world. About 2 hours North of Portland, 4 hours from Boston, 2 hours from Acadia and Bar Harbor…-, and a million miles from the bustle and activity of the busy world!
Rockport is just south of Camden, practically part of the same town, and Rockland is about twenty minutes south of Camden. Belfast is about twenty minutes north of Camden. Rockland is alittle more commerical and boasts being the “Real Maine” in comparison to Camden, but anyone who has visited both understands that the comparison is not Real vs. fake, but Real vs. out of this world!
Rockland, Belfast, Lincolnville, Castine, Blue Hill and Bar Harbor are great day trips from Camden. Many of our guests use Camden as their home base while they venture out exploring and enjoying all that the Maine coast has to offer, enjoying the wonders of Acadia but retreating from the commercialism and crowds or just plain remoteness of some of the other waystops. Coming home to this beautiful village will make your stay on the coast all worth it.
The Camden Windward House Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay while you are in Camden. Located in the heart of the village, within walking distance of all the shops, the restaurants and the harbor, -, even the Mt. Battie trailhead of Camden Hills State Park.
