No Camden visit feels complete without seeing the harbor from above.

Staying at Camden Windward House grants you walking access into Camden Hills State Park via the Mount Battie Trailhead, located directly behind the Inn with a short moderate hike that will reward you with one of the most iconic views on the Maine Coast – islands scattered across the Penobscot Bay, sailboats and Camden’s gorgeous harbor below, mountains behind you.

Camden is known as where “the mountains meet the sea”.

Pair this hike with a sail on one of Camden’s iconic schooners. This will allow you to truly immerse yourself into that statement while bookending your experience with some of the best contrasting views and photo opportunities.

The view from Mount Battie is one we never get tired of. While deciding whether to begin our next chapter in Camden or stay in our old life, we counted down “one, two, three,” and both chose Camden and Windward House without hesitation. It just felt right.

It’s one of the most iconic things to do in Camden Maine and a perfect way to start your day.

The Waterfront Restaurant is a local favorite, allowing a mid-day meal with schooners and lobster boats drifting by in the background.

For lighter fare, or a quick bite, Camden Deli on Main Street is a town staple with harbor-wide views.

Spending time along the waterfront is one of the best things to do in Camden Maine, especially on a relaxed one-day visit.

Our small fleet of beautifully restored vessels offer 2-hour sails offered multiple times daily with varying passenger capacities.

For a more intimate and private sail, check out Sloop Anjacaa & Schooner Surprise, or for a larger group or more social sail Schooner Olad or Appledoore II.

As the afternoon softens into evening, Camden’s atmosphere becomes especially magical.

The temperatures drop and coastal breezes drift toward town just in time for the pace to drop after a busy day of exploring the beauty that is Camden, Maine.

🌙 Bonus Evening Stroll

After dinner take one last wander through Camden’s most picturesque spots.

Grab some ice cream over at Camden Cone or cross the footbridge over by Riverducks before heading over to Camden Harbor Park.

Designed by the renowned Olmsted Brothers, this two-acre gem offers panoramic postcard-perfect views of Camden Harbor and its bustling waterfront and historic sailboats.

Both Harbor Park & the historic Camden Public Library Amphitheater serve as a gorgeous “living painting” backdrop for photos, quiet reflection or romantic strolls.

This is Camden at its most peaceful. It is also the exact moment you will begin to doubt your choice of staying only one night in Camden.

Slip into something more comfortable and end your night the quintessential Midcoast way: a drink beside the garden firepit.

Swing by our onsite bar or grab tea or coffee from the 24/7 guest pantry before sinking into an Adirondack chair under the stars in the courtyard gardens.

Light music, ambiant lighting and the glow of the fire combined with the serenity of Camden after dark is the perfect transition into restful sleep before the next day’s travels.

Back at the inn, unwinding by the firepit in our gardens is one of our favorite ways to end the evening—and one of our guests’ favorite parts of their stay. You might even find us still out there, putzing around and making everything “just right.”

Moments like this are what make even a short Camden Maine getaway feel like a full escape.
