Is It Safe to Travel to Camden, ME, During the Coronavirus Pandemic?

In these uncertain times, that is a hard question to answer.  You hear so many things on any given day during this crisis you don’t know what to believe.  It seems the most popular advice is to wash your hands and don’t touch your mouth with your hands.  We should be doing that already everyday right?   So who knows if that is all we should be doing.

But alas, here we are in March with the spring and summer approaching rapidly.  It’s time to start planning for vacations and weekend getaways!  But with the coronavirus, we are hesitant.  Perhaps make 2020 the “Year of the Road Trip”? Our Camden Maine Bed & Breakfast, Windward House, is a great choice!

What are you doing at Windward house to keep you and your guests safe?

Many people forget that you will be staying in our home.  We take great pride in keeping our Bed and Breakfast clean and germ-free.  There is high attention to detail when we clean our rooms.  Owning a smaller lodging facility allows us to take the time needed to make sure every surface is free of contaminants.  We even clean things you’d never think about, like remote controls, door knobs, dresser handles, light switches, etc. Matt and Dan are the sole owners of this Camden, Maine Bed and Breakfast so you can be sure we will do our best to remain virus-free. If either of us don’t feel well, you can be rest assured we won’t be open. Visit our Tripadvisor page to see how guests have commented about the cleanliness and astute detention to detail at Windward House.

Just like any time of the year, we offer private dining options. Every table we have allows you to sit in the confines of your own space, thus following the guidelines of social distancing. And with so many hiking trails in the area, you can get plenty of that. Even the restaurants (those that are open) are only doing delivery and pick-up. Theres no better way to have a cozy getaway than stay in and dine in your own room while binge watching your favorite show!

Lastly, as much as we like to greet our guests with a firm handshake, we will omit from doing this for the time being. And most of all, we have plenty of toilet paper!

2020 Cancellation Policy

We know that traveling during these scary times can be stressful.  The uncertainty of the day-to-day developments will probably make you want to put your plans on hold.  We here at Windward House want to do our best to help alleviate your fears and take the vacation you deserve while still being able to cancel should the need arise.

Our existing reservation policy allows you to cancel your plans and receive a full refund if you cancel outside 14 days before you arrive.  If you are to cancel within 14 days of arrival, you would forfeit the full amount of the reservation.  With these trying times we are going to amend our cancellation policy to the following for any reservation during the 2020 season:

  1.  If you make a reservation with us and cancel outside the 14-day window, you will receive a full refund.  This is existing and unchanged.

  2. If you need to change your plans within the 14-day window, you will receive a credit for the amount paid to be used on a future reservation, up to one year after your original reservation.  This will give you the flexibility to make decisions as more information is released regarding these trying times.

Our Promise to You

We know that the fear of the unknown is a frightening thing, but we need to keep going and take each day as it comes. If you decide you need a getaway and you stay with us, we promise that you will feel at home in the cleanest of environments. We hope that relaxing our cancellation policies will put your mind at ease should you need to cancel. We will continue to monitor the hourly updates and follow all the guidelines the CDC recommends.

Stay safe out there and hopefully this will all be a distant memory soon. We will get through this together!

All the best,

Matt and Dan
